Known as the “father of snowboarding”, Jake Burton helped popularise the sport that was banned by ski resorts until 1983.

In the late 1970s, he had seen the possibilities of using a single board and launched Burton Snowboards to make snowboarding equipment, helping to build the sport’s profile worldwide. By 1998 snowboarding had made it to the Olympics.
