Jameela Jamil Calls for More Representation in the Entertainment Industry | Women In Music

(upbeat music) – My advice to women who are struggling to find their self worth is listen to the things that you say to yourself in your head Would you ever, ever say those things to a woman that you love? Would you ever even tolerate someone else saying those things to a woman you love? If not, then you are not allowed to say those things to yourself anymore

The greatest piece of wisdom I've ever received from a woman in my life was anything's a dildo if you're brave enough Some female artists that I'd like to honor, I mean, all the women being honored tonight are on my list, but also Beyonce, Rihanna, and Lizzo are people who mean a lot to me They were the first people that I saw who represented different things that this industry desperately needed in this industry and I love them a lot and they make great music and they are brilliant The most important social justice issue for me this year, it's always gender inequality, but I think in particular abortion rights I am very much so pro choice

That is something that I will be very vocal about all of the next decade I see more diversity in the industry I still think we need more disability representation in music and in the entertainment industry in general and also we need more women behind the camera, and in the recording studios, and in the technician roles because these rooms that I go into are just a sausage fest and that's ridiculous because, as we've seen with people like Missy Elliot, women are more than capable of making incredible music Not just being the artist, but also being incredible behind the scenes and so we need more women in every area of the music industry We need more diversity in general, but I believe in our power to change
