– If you're out walking, bicycling, or jogging, and you're struck by a vehicle and you were on the wrong side of the road, you may not be able to recover any damages for your medical bills, injuries, or even your death I'm Andrew Flusche, and this channel is all about helping to protect you on the roads of Virginia
Did you know that it really matters which side of the road you walk or bicycle on? The reason is matters is if you get hit by a car and you or your heirs sue the driver of the vehicle, if you were on the wrong side of the road in Virginia as a pedestrian or a bicyclist, you may not be able to recover any damages at all It's a concept called contributory negligence There's three scenarios we need to look at Number one, pedestrians, by law, are supposed to walk on the left side of the road You're supposed to walk opposite of motor vehicle traffic so you can see the cars coming and also that you help to make sure they can see you
But more importantly, you can see them and if they're not gonna move, you can duck out of the way a lot quicker than they can Scenario number two is if you're riding a bicycle Bicyclists are required to be on the right side of the road just like motor vehicles So bicyclists go on the right side of the road And then, finally, scenario number three
What about a Segway? Segways also go on the right side of the road in Virginia Remember to stay on the correct side of the road to protect your life and livelihood For other great clips, check out my other video here Three things every Virginia driver needs to have in their car Do you know what they are?
